Three musical chipmunks are discovered by an aspiring songwriter who wants to use their amazing singing abilities to become famous. Of course, Alvin cannot resist the urge to create havoc, and the singing rodents soon find themselves marooned on a seemingly deserted island.

Another thing that is kind of upsetting is the cast of characters. The pop-culture references and songs sung in the film are sort of recognizable, but some aren't ones that I'm not very fond of. Some of the jokes in the beginning along with some scenes with David Cross are what I seemed to have laughed. I'm not saying that it's TERRIBLE or anything, but it's not good either.
I do give credit for trying, but it's not enough to say that it's as good as the original. This is the only movie where David Cross isn't the villain and it doesn't involve any of the chipmunks or chipettes in cages. The new film does try to work in a new kind of concept and bring something new into it, but mostly falls flat due to most clichés.
With the new film, only four words would describe it. It felt too much like the first film, with David Cross being the film's antagonist again, and repeating some of the same jokes. The film series is something that most people find to be anything, but masterpiece material. The film series, based on the 80's to 90's cartoon, based on the 50's album, tells the story of the relationship of Dave Sullivan taking care of 3 chipmunks who become rock stars, and it's been told as it's been. Especially if you were a child of the eighties/early nineties like me."Alvin and the Chipmunks" is a franchise that's been getting much popularity with many kids of passing generations. But this controversial issue doesn't even come close to overshadowing the Chipmunks' otherwise fabulous feature length animated adventure, I encourage parents and childless adults alike to check out this movie. The Chipettes' were definitely sexualized tenfold for this movie. However, looking at it as a rational adult, I can totally understand the concern you've got three young girls in skimpy harem outfits passionately proclaiming "getting lucky is what it's all about". Controversy has stirred over the blatantly suggestive tone of the Chipette's song "Gettin' Lucky With You", which to me seemed much more innocent at the time. This is by no means the greatest film or even the greatest animated film, but to an 8 year old girl in 1988 it was the coolest, funniest, most exciting film ever! I'm still equally as impressed today with the musical numbers, each one a standout song with wonderfully dramatic lyrics in the epic tradition of 80's pop (think Pat Benetar on helium, only catchier). To this day, there isn't a movie I've seen more times than The Chipmunk Adventure, nor has any movie brought me more happiness.
